अष्टावक्रजी बुद्धपुरुष थे, जिनका नाम अध्यात्म-जगत् में आदर एवं सम्मान के साथ लिया जाता है। कहा जाता है कि जब वे अपनी माता के गर्भ में थे, उस समय उनके पिताजी वेद-पाठ कर रहे थे, तब उन्होंने गर्भ से ही पिता को टोक दिया था—‘शास्त्रों में ज्ञान कहाँ है? ज्ञान तो स्वयं के भीतर है! सत्य शास्त्रों में नहीं, स्वयं में है।’ यह सुनकर पिता ने गर्भस्थ शिशु को शाप दे दिया, ‘तू आठ अंगों से टेढ़ा-मेढ़ा एवं कुरूप होगा।’ इसीलिए उनका नाम ‘अष्टावक्र’ पड़ा।
‘अष्टावक्र गीता’ में अष्टावक्रजी के एक-से-एक अनूठे वक्तव्य हैं। ये कोई सैद्धांतिक वक्तव्य नहीं हैं, बल्कि प्रयोगसिद्ध वैज्ञानिक सत्य हैं, जिनको उन्हेंने विदेह जनक पर प्रयोग करके सत्य सिद्ध कर दिखाया था। राजा जनक ने बारह वर्षीय अष्टावक्रजी को अपने सिंहासन पर बैठाया और स्वयं उनके चरणों में बैठकर शिष्य-भाव से अपनी जिज्ञासाओं का शमन कराया। यही शंका-समाधान अष्टावक्र संवाद रूप में ‘अष्टावक्र गीता’ में समाहित है।

‘असली झारखंड’ नामक यह पुस्तक झारखंडी विचारधारा के लेखकों, झारखंड के चिंतकों, झारखंड के आंदोलनकारियों, झारखंड के बुद्धिजीवियों के लेखों का संकलन है। ये सारे लेख प्रभात खबर और इसके विशेष अंकों में पिछले 35 साल के दौरान प्रकाशित हो चुके हैं। जिन दिनों झारखंड राज्य बनाने के लिए आंदोलन चल रहा था, उन दिनों आंदोलन को गति देने और लोगों तक अपनी बात पहुँचाने के लिए झारखंडी विचारधारा के लोग, आंदोलनकारी प्रभात खबर में लगातार लेख लिखते थे। इससे ओपिनियन बनाने में बड़ी मदद मिलती थी। उन दिनों इस क्षेत्र में बहुत कम ऐसे अखबार थे, जो झारखंड आंदोलन को खुलकर इतना सहयोग करते थे। इसलिए सबसे अधिक लेख प्रभात खबर में ही छपते थे। झारखंड क्यों चाहिए, कैसा होगा हमारा झारखंड, क्या-क्या होंगे मुख्य मुद्दे, क्या होंगी चुनौतियाँ, कैसे इससे निबटेंगे, राज्य बनने के बाद कैसे झारखंड का पुनर्निर्माण होगा आदि सवालों को लेकर ये लेख लिखे गए थे। जब राज्य बन गया तो समय-समय पर इन्हीं लेखकों-चिंतकों ने अपने लेखों के जरिए यहाँ के मुद्दों को उठाया। इस बात का मूल्यांकन किया कि झारखंड सही दिशा में जा रहा है या नहीं। झारखंड कहाँ खड़ा है? इसके विकास का मॉडल क्या हो? के साथ-साथ जल, जंगल, जमीन और झारखंड की भाषा-संस्कृति से संबंधित लेख भी लगातार छपते रहे। खास तौर पर 15 नवंबर के अंकों में। इस पुस्तक में डॉ. रामदयाल मुंडा, डॉ. बी.पी. केसरी, कुमार सुरेश सिंह, डॉ. अमर कुमार सिंह, संजय बसु मल्लिक, बी.डी. शर्मा, ए.के. राय, महाश्वेता देवी, डॉ. गिरधारी राम गंझू, रश्मि कात्यायन आदि प्रबुद्ध लोगों के लेख संकलित किए गए हैं। अधिकांश लेख दुर्लभ हैं। कई तो 30-35 साल पुराने हैं और आसानी से उपलब्ध नहीं हैं। ये लेख असली झारखंड को समझने में काफी काम आएँगे। शोधार्थी और झारखंड के लिए योजना बनानेवालों के लिए भी यह पुस्तक काफी महत्त्वपूर्ण साबित होगी। इस पुस्तक में छपे लेखों को पढ़ने से एक आम आदमी भी असली झारखंड को बेहतर तरीके से समझ सकता है। यही इस पुस्तक का उद्देश्य भी है।

उन दिनों संघ की शाखा में रोज कबड्डी खेली जाती थी। अटलजी को भी कबड्डी खेलना बड़ा अच्छा लगता था, लेकिन वे ठीक से खेल ही नहीं पाते थे। खेल के नियम तो सारे जानते थे, लेकिन दरअसल कारण यह था कि उन दिनों वे बहुत दुबले-पतले हुआ करते थे, इसलिए वे जिसके भी पाले में आते, उस पाले के स्वयंसेवक अपना सिर पकड़ लेते।

अथ कैकेयी कथा
कैकेयी की कथा श्रेष्ठ मूल्यों से बिछलने की कथा है। जब यशस्वी मनुष्य स्वार्थवश अपने आचरण को संकुचित करता है तब जीवन में उत्पात और उपद्रव की सृष्टि होती है। इसीलिए बार-बार हमारे धर्म-ग्रन्थों ने दोहराया है कि उच्च पदस्थ व्यक्ति को अनिवार्यत: सदाचार करना चाहिए। जिस पथ पर श्रेष्ठ जन चलते हैं वही मार्ग है। कैकेयी चलीं, लेकिन उनकी यात्रा मार्ग नहीं बन पायी, क्योंकि वह आदर्शों से फिसल गयी थीं।
आचरण की प्रामाणिकता की पहचान आपदा के समय होती है। शान्त समय में हर व्यक्ति श्रेष्ठ और सदाचारी होता है। आपदा मनुष्य के आचरण को अपने ताप की कसौटी पर कसती है। जो निखर गया वह कुन्दन है, जो बिखर गया वह कोयला। कैकेयी आपदा के इस ताप में बिखर गयीं। ईर्ष्या, द्वेष और प्रतिशोध में फँसकर उन्होंने ‘परमप्रिय’ राम को दण्ड दे दिया।
जीवन में श्रेष्ठ एवं उदात्त मूल्यों की प्रतिष्ठा के लिए प्रतिबद्ध हिन्दू चित्त ने कैकेयी को राम पर आघात करने के लिए दण्ड दिया। उसने निर्ममतापूर्वक कैकेयी के नाम को हिन्दू परिवार की नाम-सूची से बाहर कर दिया। अशिव का तिरस्कार और शिव का सत्कार, यही हिन्दू चित्त की विशेषता है।

‘जो फल की इच्छा को त्याग करके कर्मों को ब्रह्म में अर्पण करके कर्म करता है, वह पाप में लिप्त नहीं होता। जिस प्रकार जल में रहकर भी कमलपत्र जलमय नहीं होता।’ जीवनपर्यंत जो कुछ किया, स्वदेश की भलाई समझकर किया। यदि शरीर की पालना की तो इसी विचार से कि सुदृढ़ शरीर से भली प्रकार स्वदेश-सेवा हो सके। बड़े प्रयत्नों से यह शुभ दिन प्राप्त हुआ। संयुक्त प्रांत में इस तुच्छ शरीर का ही सौभाग्य होगा। जो सन् 1857 के गदर की घटनाओं के पश्चात् क्रांतिकारी आंदोलन के संबंध में इस प्रांत के निवासी का पहला बलिदान मातृ-वेदी पर होगा।
